Homeschooling is a part of education which belongs to a non formal one
as stated in Article of Indonesian education system no. 20 year 2003. It
is defined as a home based learning. Further, it could be single
homeschooling or merged with others into community homeschooling.
Actually the learning can be conducted anywhere such as in the garden,
orphanage, hospital, park etc., as long as the venues can accommodate
the topic of the learning materials. Basically, the curriculum is the same as that of the
formal education. It provides 4 major subjects; Science, Mathematics,
and Indonesian language, and English language. Nevertheless, the main
difference is the existence of interest-based materials such as
swimming, playing the piano, playing football, painting, etc. Students
may choose more than one interest-based materials based on their
aptitude and interest. In Addition, the students may start the classes
when, where, with what subject they want to. In single homeschooling,
the learning resources mostly come from the parents, but usually they
hire private teachers for some difficult subjects such as Science and
Mathematics. It is different from community homeschooling where it
provides teachers like formal school. Although it sounds interesting, in
practice it needs a high commitment from both parents and students to
focus on the learning not the form of education
