Formulating strategies to counteract the challenges in authoring learner blogs

Internet users are familiar with the term of blogs or weblogs which is different from website. Blog is free and easy to use for anyone who does not have knowledge about HTML and computer language. It is just like flicking our fingers to signup to blogs' providers. Some of my students have done it easily but they need to take at least a week time to familiarize themselves with it. In general, they conclude that blog is user friendly and easy to manage.

Based on some references, blog is an interesting technology that is beneficial in language learning. Tutor, learner and class blogs are the three types of blogs in which they can share thoughts and comments each other. From language learning perspective, students can take most advantages by managing learner blogs. They will be more independent to control the contents and focus more on self pace learning. In addition, learner blogs are also beneficial to develop writing, reading and communication skills.

However, the challenges in managing learner blogs still remain. Some studies mention four challenges including authoring irrelevant contents, lack of self-confidence, performance fluctuation and technical aspects of technology. Similar with my own study, my students enlist only three challenges. They are performance fluctuation issue, self-confidence and problem in relation to technology.

Having revisited the benefits and challenges, it is worth to formulate the strategies to counteract the challenges in authoring learner blogs. Thus tutors can lead the students' independence and elevate the quality of learning inside out of the classrooms.

I have not conducted any scientific research on such strategies. Nonetheless,  practically, I have tried out some efforts that my be useful to be implemented.... to be continued (a bit exhausted to refresh my memory ;p)
